Alabama State GED Test Eligibility Requirements
- You do not have be a resident of Alabama if you are 18 years old or older.
- You cannot be enrolled in an accredited high school or be a high school graduate.
- You must be 18 years old or older. If you’re younger, you may be able to get permission to take the test. Check with your local GED testing center to make sure.
- Cost: $30 (per subject) or $120 (all subjects)
- Passing Score: 145 (minimum) in each subject
- Accommodations: You must apply for disability accommodations through the GED® Testing Service page.
- After you pass the test, the State of Alabama will award you a GED certificate that will show you have achieved the same level of knowledge as a high school graduate.

The GED test in Alabama is $30 per subject, or $120 for the full test.

You can retake each subject without waiting up to 3 times. You must wait 60 days for the fourth retake. There is no limit on how many retakes you may take in a year. You will be offered a discounted price for your first two retakes for $10 each. To receive additional discounted retakes, you must wait 60 days, pay the full price, and then you will receive two more discounted retakes. All retakes must occur within 12 months of the initial attempt.
You must be 18 years of age. However, if you are 16 or 17, you can take the GED test if you are a legal resident of the state of Alabama who has withdrawn from school. You must present the GED examiner with a notarized Student Exit Interview form from the school system, and a notarized permission letter from your parent or guardian. If you are 16, you must also take the TABE test and receive a score of ASE low, or score “likely to pass” on the GED Ready Mathematical Reasoning and Reasoning Through Language Arts tests.
