Louisiana GED and HiSET Requirements
- Resident: You do not have to be a resident of Louisiana.
- Age: You must be 19 years of age. If you are under 18 years of age, you must meet additional requirements for the GED and HiSET.
- Enrolled: You cannot be enrolled in an accredited high school or be a high school graduate.
- Cost: GED at a Test Center: $38.50 (per subject). GED Test Online: $36 (per subject). HiSET Paper-based: $15 (per subtest). HiSET Computer-based: $10.75 (per subtest), plus test administration fees.
- Score: The GED Test requires a 145 (minimum) for each subject to pass. The HiSET Exam requires an 8 (minimum) on each subtest with a combined score of 45; minimum of 2 on the Language Arts, Writing essay.
- Accommodations: You must apply for disability accommodations through the GED Testing Service page or fill out a HiSET Accommodations Request Form on the HiSET website.
- Diploma: After you pass the test, the State of Louisiana will award you with a high school equivalency certificate showing you have achieved the same level of knowledge as a high school graduate.

The HiSET exam in Louisiana is $32 per subject, or $128 for the full test.
A passing score on the Louisiana HiSET exam is 145 points (45% correct) in each of the four subjects.
You can retake each subject up to 3 times without waiting. The fourth retake requires a 60 day waiting period. You will be offered a discounted price for your first two retakes ($12 per retake instead of $32). To receive additional discounted retakes, you must wait 60 days, pay the full price of $32, and then you will receive two more discounted retakes. All retakes must occur within 12 months of the initial attempt.
