Local GED® Test Information
The GED® test is administered by state governments in the United States and by provinces in Canada. The GED test can also be taken internationally through Prometric. Because individual states and localities award their own GED diplomas or credentials, requirements for the GED test can vary from location to location Many local areas also have special programs and local GED resources.

United States GED Test Information
The GED test was developed in the United States, so that U.S. soldiers returning from World War II could complete their high school credential and go on to jobs and higher education. It has since become the gold standard for high school equivalency in the U.S. Most U.S. GED testing is in English, but some U.S. GED centers offer the GED in Spanish or French.
The test itself is the same throughout the U.S. The U.S. GED social studies test includes 40% specific U.S. history and civics information, including the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and major U.S. Supreme Court decisions.

Canadian GED Test Information
The GED test is administered as a high school equivalency exam throughout Canada. Each province has a GED test administrator responsible for the GED exam in that area.
The GED test in Canada is similar to the U.S. test, but the GED social studies test includes specific Canadian GED history and civics portions amounting to 40% of the social studies test, including questions that cover The Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
