Use Google to Read and Write Better?
Hola! I was talking with a friend of mine who is from Mexico, and came to the U.S. about four years ago. He was looking for some information online, and he was using Google. Then, I saw instead of just searching for words, he was searching Google Images. I asked him about it. Because he’s not so good with English yet, he says it’s easier to look at the pictures sometimes to find what he’s looking for. It got me to think about it… pictures are a big help when you’re trying to read better. If you can use pictures to help you find what you need, it can help a lot. And, pictures can help you study.
If I look for information on atoms on Google, here’s what I see:
If I have trouble reading the text, does it help me? Not too much. But if I click on “image” at the top of the page, I see pictures, and I can choose the one that looks most helpful. If I want something simple, I look for something easy to understand.
And looking at the picture and understanding it will help me read the website, too. And that improves my reading skills.
Here’s another thing you can do with Google. Say you don’t know a word, or don’t know how to spell it. Put your best guess into Google. Google will probably tell you the right way to spell it and show you where to get information about what it means.
So those are two ways to use Google to help you read, write, and study better… what do you think? Do you have other ideas?
