GED Reading Question from Blessing

What is the trick for one to do well in the reading part of GED?
So, I’ve got a few suggestions to help you do well in reading for the GED… by the way, some of these also help for the science and social studies tests, because being able to answer the questions has a lot to do with how well you can understand the reading.
Well, I think the best thing you can do is practice reading… read more! Read anything that you enjoy: books, newspapers, magazines, the Internet, anything that you’re interested in and that you like. That will help you improve your reading skill. But there are other things that you can do to do better on the GED test.
- Read the questions and the answer choices first when you take the GED test. The questions will give you an idea of what you’re looking for in the reading. That can help a lot.
- Practice skimming and scanning. Here’s a couple of my blog posts about it: Skimming and Scanning for the GED Test and GED practice question answer using skimming and scanning. Skimming and scanning help you find information faster in a passage of text.
- Learn ways to figure out words that you don’t know when you take the test. Here is one of my blog posts about that: GED Vocabulary…Understanding Words on the GED Test.
- Learn to look at the important parts of a reading to find main ideas.
- Look at the beginning and end sentences of paragraphs. A lot of the time, they tell the main idea.
- Look at the end of poems or stories… a lot of time the main point is at the end.
- Look at the title of a reading. It can tell you what it’s all about!
The other thing is that you need to understand a little bit about stories, plays, and poems. That can be a little hard. It’s a good idea to try to think about how what people say and do can help you understand what people are like. If someone ignores their friend, maybe they are mean or selfish or just don’t want to listen to what their friend is saying. And, they’ll be likely to do the same thing another time. I haven’t written a blog post about questions about characters on the GED, so maybe I should do that next time. So, look for a new blog in the next couple of weeks about how to answer questions about characters in stories, plays, and poems on the GED test.
