My Daughter Woke Me Up

Name: Tahirie

City State: Hollywood, Florida

What motivated you to get your GED?
I dropped out of high school when I was young. Now that I am older and a mother, I realized that without a degree, no one can get a great job. I also want to get my GED to give my daughter a better life and to be independent for my family.

How have your friends and family helped you? All my family and friends have inspired me each and every day, and they’ve motivated me to be better in life.

What problems have you faced? I have faced a lot of different things in my life that have put me through a lot of depression. I have lost myself. I didn’t realize who I was. My daughter woke me up and told me, “Mom, you need to get out of it and do something for yourself. Go back to school, mom.”

What do you hope to gain from getting your GED?
I hope that by getting my GED, I will be successful in life and have a great job. I hope I can support my family and be happy. I hope I can put a smile on my face again.

Tahirie,

Sometimes it takes a wake-up call to get us going. It sounds like you’ve raised a great daughter, and that you have some good support amongst your friends and family. Keep working at it, and you’ll be sure to get your GED! Good luck!
