I noticed I’m going to be in a dead end job forever if I don’t do something, and I want to make something of my life.

My family hasn’t helped me, not in the slightest. They’re the reason why I had to leave school. My problems are… not going anywhere financially and living like things will never get better unless I make them better.

Well, after I get my GED I hope I can get right back into school and accomplish my dreams.

William,

You can get your GED, and you’re right–it’s the best way out of a dead-end job and onto new and better things. The GED isn’t that hard. It just takes a little effort and a commitment to stick with it. You’ll need to find the resources that can help you. We’ve got a GED prep program that covers everything you’ll need to know. There are also resources in your community. In Illinois, the Illinois Community College Board is in charge of GED testing, and you can find out more information about resources to help you succeed here: http://www.iccb.org/gedtesting.html

Basically, passing the GED means finding out what you need to learn, brushing up on those skills, and then taking the test. To find out what you need to know, it helps to take a practice test, to find out where you are. You might find you’re already ready to take one or more of the GED tests right away, and if so, it can help to go ahead and take them, to get them out of the way. For the tests that you don’t pass, start with the easiest one first, and study that subject until you’re ready to pass.

When you’re ready, use this test center locator to find a test center nearby… and you’re on your way!

Good luck!
