I love the job I’m at.
Name:Â Â Â Â Gloria
Age:Â Â Â Â 43
City and State: Â Â Â Miami, FL
I am 43 years old, I stopped going to high school when I was in the 12th grade. I was in a small class that sat about 15 students. I was in a special class for kids that can’t read. I needed 3 points to come out of school.
Reason for Leaving School:Â Well, me and my mom don’t see eye to eye because I had a baby too young. So I moved out of my mom’s house and stopped going to school. I want to go back to get my GED.
Reason to Get a GED:Â Because I have work that needs a high school diploma and goals to get my GED to keep the job I have.
One Thing I Need for My Dreams:Â To get my GED. Help me to get my GED because I love the job I’m at.
Gloria,
You’ve found a job you love. That’s great. And you can get your GED. It might be a little difficult, because you have trouble reading, and reading is key to the GED. You’ll need to practice reading, and especially practice reading skills and reading strategies that will help you on the GED test, like skimming and scanning, and reading skills that will help you study better, like KWL and SQ4R. You might also want to focus on vocabulary.
Focus your studying on what you need to pass the GED. That’s what the GED Academy program helps you do, with complete study tools focused only on GED skills. Another good place to start is at the Florida Department of Education GED website: http://www.fldoe.org/workforce/ged/gedover.asp. You can find GED resources and how to find the adult education programs near you.
You can pass your GED and keep the job you love! Stick with it.
