Most people think if you drop out, you’re stupid…
Name:Â Â Â Â Kala
Age: Â Â Â 15
City and State: Â Â Â Northport, Al.
I about to be 16 years old. Most people think if you drop out, you’re stupid. Sometimes that might be the case but not in mine. I wanna drop out, get my GED, get a job, and go to college early. I would be going to college either way, so it’s actually not that bad as long as you do the right thing.
Reason for Leaving School:Â I want to when I turn 16 December 1.
Reason to Get a GED:Â I wanna go to college after I get my GED. I wanna be an ultrasound tech.
One Thing I Need for My Dreams:Â To set my mind to it.
Kala,
Hey, one thing we’re sure of… people drop out for a lot of reasons, but it never means they’re “stupid.” But The GED Academy never recommends that current high school students drop out. Sometimes, the extra preparation in the last years of school can help you a lot with college and life. We know you’re anxious to move forward, but this is a serious decision. We work with a lot of people who dropped out of school and then regretted it later. We’re very glad to hear that you want to go on to college, and that you’ve got a great career path in mind.
In Alabama, to take the GED when you’re 16, you’ll need your parents’ permission, in a notarized letter, as well a letter confirming that you’ve dropped out of school. (You can find more information about the GED in Alabama here: http://www.accs.cc/ged.aspx) So, you’ll need to talk with your parents. Maybe your parents have some good ideas to help you finish school. Try to listen to them, and maybe that will help them listen to your point of view, too. Think about all the reasons you want to drop out, and try to put them in perspective. This is your future, and you want to make the best decision possible.
Good luck!

Hey I feel the same way. I turn 16 this year and I have been thinking about geting my GED. I go to this Magnet school where I feel like everything that I am doing right now will just be repeated again in the first two years of college. But I have my own reserves about it. I feel like I might miss something important if I drop out. Do you feel the same? I hope that you follow your dreams and do what you want.

my names katie, ive been in homeschooling for two years, because i failed 8th grade, and i refused to repeat it with my younger sister, i didnt think it would be fair on her part. i started late so they failed me again, making me be in 8th grade three times. i am sixteen this may, and i am still in 8th grade. it has nothing to do with how smart i am, because i am above average when it comes to how intelligent i am, i get told i am very mature for my age, and im ready to completely move on and start college. Once i turn 16 i am getting my GED and my permit, from there i’ll start community college for two years, and then go to pittsburg for culinary at there college. im not a drop out, i did not quit, or drop out and figure i’ll work at mcdonalds for the rest of my life, i chose to do what is best in my situation, and get ahead. this way i will be dont college when i am 20-24.

I turn 16 this year i missed most of my 2nd yr of high school (well secondry school for me im brittish) and then i went back then i droped out again just over half a yr ago an hav’nt been since (very complecated problems) school doesn’t teach u common sense or how to guess acuratly what sum1 else is feeling they don’t teach u to talk or to feel or how to think logicly they just teach u stuff like math an u really only need to know +, x, – and deviding which u learn in primary school (or what eva amaricans call it lol) an u don’t really need to be gd at math unless u wanna be a shop keeper and they teach u english which just shows u how to write better an stuff u don’t need to as long as the person ur writing to gets the message, an useless stuff like history, any1 who sais sum1 is stupid cuz they missed a bit (or even alot) of school is stupid. i play the piano pretty well (top in my music class when i went which was weird cuz i was a naughty little fuker hehe) i play by ear an stuff, i just normally teach my self

Im 18 years old and its going to be my senior year soon. i failed 6th grade so i was technically supposed to have graduated by now. Im not Quitting at all. I wanna just get my GED and be done with high school. I don’t feel like i learn anything there. I already know half the stuff and i get bored hearing it over and over. I never do good in school cause i don’t do homework alot i guess…or its just testing. its cause its kinda bad at my house and im just stressed. I don’t think dropping out is bad unless you don’t plan on going to college. I just wanna get out! also if i drop out i can finally move in with my Fiance who lives 3 hours away and i will be able to get a job and get my ged. then go to college for art. As long as you have good plans for your life after you drop out its ok. Alot of famous people have GED’s too. look it up you will be suprised.

For starters, do not drop out. Half of the people on here are talking in slang. Although a lot of famous people have their GED doesn’t mean its right for you. You really need to think about your doing. I droped out my senior year at 18 because I was pregnant and I needed to find a job right away to provide for myself and son. I was in my senior year I’m currently working on my GED at the age of 19 and it is not easy. I live with the parents of my sons father and my soon to be husband. Just think about what your doing.
