GED Stories

Stories to motivate and inspire. . .

I want them to know their mother wasn’t nothing.

Well I’m Kim, 23 yrs. old, with 3 kids. I’ve been having rough times, I really never had time for high school. I dropped out in 9th grade. It was hard for me. I was messing around, going around drinking and party all the time. It’s really hard right now.

I ended up pregnant with my first kid at the age of 17. It was hard,  it was a planned pregnancy for me. I want my GED because I realized I’m a single mother with 3 kids, and I wanna  raise them right. I want them to know their mother wasn’t nothing. Make my kids proud of me. I realized what I did with my life, it  took me awhile to realize. I feel bad when I look at my kids. It makes me cry every time I look at them. I feel like I messed up BIG TIME… When I was small my mom and dad were alcoholics, and smoked weed all the time. I never grew up around them, my grandma raised me, and my 4 sisters. I’m nothing with nothing, I know I never will. If I get my GED or High School Diploma, you know…

My dream is getting my G.E.D. online making my kids happy to see that I’m doing something with my life. That they’ll be able to have what ever they want in life… Have things in life. This is a good opportunity for me and my kids.

Kimberly, 23, Pine Ridge, South Dakota

Kim,

Your story is like a lot of women’s. You gave up some chances when you were young, and now it’s causing trouble. Worse, it’s making you feel worthless. Well, that’s a mistake. You made three beautiful kids, and though you gave up some things to do it, that’s still a wonderful thing. And you’ve got a lot of time ahead of you to do whatever you want. Because you can. You have the ability to be successful, to show your kids that you’re successful. Don’t feel worthless. Feel confident.

You mentioned getting your GED online. One thing to be aware of… the GED cannot be taken online. The real GED–the one that can get you into good jobs, colleges, training programs, police academies, and the military–can only be taken at an official testing center. Here’s a link to locate a test center near you. What The GED Academy offers you is not an online GED (there’s no such thing!) but online GED preparation… a prep program that guarantees you’ll pass the GED, or we’ll refund all your tuition. Online high school diplomas are usually fakes, and they can cause you a lot of problems… people lose their jobs, lose their college credits, lose promotions because of them. Our program puts you on the path to a real GED, and you get a diploma from your state department of education when you pass.

Because your diploma comes from your state, each state is a little different. To find out more about the GED in South Dakota, go to the South Dakota Department of Education GED website. Also, check with local libraries, community colleges, adult schools, and high schools for GED help near your home.

Be one of the 1/2 million people who will pass the GED in the next year… you’ll begin to feel great about yourself. And you deserve to feel great.
