GED Stories

Stories to motivate and inspire. . .

had to help my mom raise my four sisters…

Filed under: Children and Families, GED Students — August 25, 2008 @ 6:35 pm

I love animals, I do hair, and praise dance. I have a son that loves football. I work at a daycare center full time to pay my bills at home. I live in Raleigh, just me and my son, moving from Rocky Mount, NC.

I was a junior in high school in 2004 when I droped out. I had to help my mom raise my four sisters, get them ready for school, do their hair, and work to help my mom pay bills in the home.

I want to get my GED so I can go back to school for my business degree to open up me a hair salon, I want to go to school and be a Vet, beacuse I love animals. I want my son to see that I didn’t give up. That I finished school and he don’t need to drop out. And I want him to have better.

Just to get my GED, my dreams will have come true.

Shekesha,

You’ve been very giving to your family, helping out your mother. Now it’s your turn to finish your education and go after your dreams. The great news is that it hasn’t been that long since you’ve been in school, and you got all the way to your junior year. That means that you probably studied most of what’s on the GED… and you probably have a lot of the skills you need to pass. I’d recommend taking a practice test to find out what you’re ready to pass right away, and what you might need to brush up on.

The GED is offered at all community colleges in North Carolina, so that’s a great place to start. You can check out the North Carolina Department of Education’s GED website at: http://www.ncccs.cc.nc.us/Basic_Skills/ged.htm

Let us know when you pass, and anything we can do to help!
