Stories to motivate and inspire. . .

I want to get a job and go to college…

My name is Summer. I am 17 yrs old. My mom is very cruel to me and because of that she did not want me to have an education so she pulled me out of school in the 6th grade and I have not been back since. She would not re-enroll me, and now I need to get my GED so I can get a job and go to college for photography. I love to take pictures. Its always been a passion of mine. Well, that’s my story. It’s short.

I want my GED cause I want to get a job and go to college for photography and hopefully one day make it a career taking pictures of places, people and things. It’s something I enjoy doing very much and I know if I could get my GED I could follow through with that dream.

I know I’m only 17 but I’ve got big dreams and goals and I come from a place where they don’t ever do anything with their lives. I don’t want to be like that. I want to go some where and do something with myself, and I don’t want not being able to finish school to get in my way of me making something of myself.

Summer,

Thanks so much for sharing your story. No one should be taken out of school against their will. You should have had the opportunity to be graduating right now, with the other teens in your community. Well, you can overcome this setback and get your GED. Being pulled out of school in sixth grade puts you a bit behind…but with a little bit of studying, you can catch up on the most important skills that you’ve missed. The GED will test you on reading and thinking skills, writing skills, and math skills. It’s likely that you’ve got some of the skills you need already, so you might want to take a practice test to see what the GED is like and what you need to study. It’s very useful, and that’s why The GED Academy includes two complete online practice tests with our study program.

It’s great that you’ve got a dream and a talent for photography. Here’s our advice: do what you love. Keep working on your photography, and let that be your guide to your future. In fact, you can use your interest in photography to learn more for the GED. Photography uses the science of light, and mathematics. Plus, there’s a lot of great reading (and writing!) you can do about photography. Relating what you learn to pass your GED to something you love can really motivate you and help make learning easy.
