GED Stories

Stories to motivate and inspire. . .

I know it’s not too late.

I’m a very nice and dependable person. I’m the type of person who used to think life was all about having fun until I got older. I regret everything about not listening to my parents but I know it’s not too late. That’s why I’ve been trying so hard.I left school in 87 or 88. I believe I would have graduated in 90. I was terrible back then and real hard headed, thought I already knew everything until I started having kids and then I couldn’t help them with their homework.

I want my GED for a career and besides I feel dumb around people who have theirs.

One thing that could help my dreams come a reality is to pass the GED math. Then I could go back to school for a career in the business or law enforcement.

Denise,

Thanks for sharing your story. A lot of people don’t realize what they’ve missed out on until they have kids of their own. But you’re right, it’s not too late!

The GED math is a stumbling block for a lot of people. It can be the hardest test because you need a different kind of knowledge…and math seems like a foreign language to most people. A lot of the time, you missed out on some important, basic math concepts that you really need to understand the harder stuff. That’s why we always recommend starting with the basics…things like understanding numbers, working with fractions and decimals, and doing word problems. The better you understand the basic parts of math, the better you’ll do on all kinds of math. And the basics aren’t that hard! Learning basic math really well will give you an advantage…first, you’ll be able to do a lot of GED questions easier, and second, you’ll have the background you need to study some of the harder math.

Our math program has four courses, and the first one is all about learning math basics. Then, we give easy-to-understand lessons on statistics, data, algebra, geometry, and measurement. Plus, we give you more practice doing word problems in geometry and measurement. As a course, it gives you complete preparation to pass GED math… but you’ve got to start with the basics…understanding and working with numbers.

There are lots of math programs out there that can help… and math is a subject that you probably need a study program for. Find a program that works for you…something that explains math concepts in a way that you can understand. And you CAN pass your GED math test.

  1. Hi I passed everything but the math. I just did my first retake and scored 10pts lower. I really need to pass this cuz I want to better my life. Discouraged:

Math test seems to be to hard to pass.

Don’t be discouraged about your math test! I know it can be hard, but it’s something you CAN achieve. Here is some advice…

    (1) Take math practice tests. Write down the questions that you can’t answer, and learn how to answer those questions. When you think you’re ready to take the GED math test again, take another practice test, to be sure. Practice tests will increase your score, get you comfortable with the test-taking process, and help you learn!

    (2) Focus on learning basic math. All math builds on the basic concepts… learn how to work with fractions, decimals, percents… how to solve word problems and equations. The stronger your basic math is, the easier the harder math becomes!

    (3) Get help! The GED prep program at http://www.passged.com has helped many GED students pass their math test. But there are also probably GED prep programs through local community organizations, community colleges, adult education centers, or libraries. If the type of studying you’re doing isn’t working, then find something that will work for you.

    (4) Don’t get discouraged! Get encouragement from your family… your friends… and yourself! Give yourself a reward when you do well on a quiz, or remember a math formula. Set goals for your math learning, and tell everyone when you reach your goals! Motivation and belief in yourself is very important.

    (5) For more information about the GED math test and for GED math advice, visit Curtis’s GED math blog at http://www.passged.com/student_blogs/curtis/ … you can write in to Curtis for help at curtis@passged.com.

    Keep going. You’ll make it!
