I’m trying to get my GED so I can move forward in life…

My name is Latasha Hall and I’m from New Orleans. I’m 20 years old and I’m trying to get my GED so I can move forward in life so I can show my baby girl school is everything and with out it you have nothing.

I left school in 2005. I left school because I have ADHD, and I couldn’t keep still in class. I want to get my GED because I feel like by me not having my GED, I can’t get a good job or follow my dreams. My goal is for me to get my GED so I can become an RN.

Latasha,

The GED can definitely get you on the right path to becoming an RN. At The GED Academy, we hear a lot of stories like yours… and want to tell you that you can succeed. One of the great benefits of studying for the GED is that your children see by example that school is important to you. Here’s what one of our students told us:

“This I will say, since I have started the GED study, my children have noticed how important it is and how hard I have been working, and they too have brought up their grades, all A’s. I am SO proud of them.”

Keep going! I know that with ADHD it can be difficult, so find a study schedule and program that works for you… Study every day, but allow yourself to take breaks. Do activities like using cards to learn statistics or doing science experiments. Try to identify big concepts while you study… then work on the details a little at a time. Here’s a web page with some more advice for students with ADHD. It’s really for students in school, but some of it will be helpful for GED studying. http://www.studygs.net/adhd/index.htm
