My goal is to get my GED and not go back to prison.
I’ve been in prison most of my life…I just got out of prison last year…the free world has been good to me. I am working now, and I am taking AA classes, and my goal now is to get my GED. Help me!
When I was young, I did not care. I was very much in the party lifestyle, in trouble. I have a daughter who is 18, and she is following my footsteps. It’s hard talking to your kids not to lead or go the way you went when you were young… My goal is to get my GED and not go back to prison. I’ve been there too long.
I need to work hard to get my GED… Please, help me!

John,
Thanks for bringing us your story! 37% of people in prison, more than one in three, do not have a high school diploma or GED, and getting your GED makes you less likely to go back to prison. That’s because your GED gives you more, and better, opportunities for success! The best thing you can do for your daughter is to set a good example with your life now. Studying for your GED can inspire your children to value school and do better in life.
You have a great goal for yourself. Now you need to make a plan. Look for resources in your area…community colleges or adult education programs. Check out GED study books and computer study programs, and find the way that will work for you, to brush up on your high school skills. Set aside a little time each day to study. Make it a habit that you don’t break! Get your family, even your daughter, to help you if you can. Choose when you’ll take the test, and find a test center near you. Setting a test date can help you keep your goal.
If you’re committed to earning your GED, you can! Over half a million people earn their GED each year.
