Please, please help me achieve my GED…

I’ve always wanted to get my GED, and I am so dumb that I have tried four times and I haven’t been able to get this darn GED. So please, someone, please, please help me with my silly-butt brains. I left school in about 1981. I need to get my GED because I have two adorable children, and I just need this so I can get a job so I can get out of my messed up marriage. If I could get the help of a tutor in my area… Please, please help me achieve my GED quickly!

Sandra Denton, 45, Coconut Creek, Florida

Sandra,

Thanks for contributing your story! Tutors can be a great help, if you can afford one. Check local community colleges and even high schools for available tutors, and look for adult education GED classes in your area. If you find a tutor or teacher, be sure to show them your scores so they can help tailor your studying to what you need to learn. Ask the high school and community college counselors if they know of any resources. And check out our online program at The GED Academy. Let us know anything we can do to help.

But there’s one thing that you can do, besides finding a tutor… that’s put more faith in yourself. Trust us, you’re not dumb. A lot of people who didn’t get through high school think they’re dumb… it’s something they’ve heard from parents or teachers or someone in their lives, so they’re pre-programmed to shut off learning even before it starts. “Can’t” thinking leads to failure. Start thinking “can.” Motivate yourself to know you can do it. You just need to learn a little bit about how to learn. Over a half-million people got their GED last year. You can do it, too!
