I can’t wait to get started on my GED.

My name is A. Williams. I am 43 years old. My story is a little different. I’m not here to tell you a success story about how I received my GED, in fact, I haven’t received it yet, but I intend to purchase the course just as soon as I finish this story. First, I want to share with you why I’ve not only decided to obtain my GED but why I chose to do it through this website.

Let me say, this website is a blessing from God. I did not graduate from high school. When I was high school age, I was too busy hanging out and doing things I thought were more important. However, as I got older I begin to realize the importance of having an education.

Even though I lucked up and landed some pretty good jobs, I soon found out that without a college education, there was only so far I was going to go on these jobs. I worked several jobs where I was a lot more qualified than others I worked with as far as experience was concerned, but when promotional opportunities came, I was overlooked time and time again because I did not have a degree. So I finally got fed up and decided to enroll in college and get a degree.

However, when I tried to enroll I ran into another stumbling block. I found out I had to have a college diploma or a GED before I could be admitted. I knew several people that had obtained their GED but after they told me they had to sit a classroom all day long with instructors that teach too fast and with kids half their ages, I quickly forgot that idea. So for years I’ve just been settling for lower paying positions on my job with no hope of ever getting a college education or a better paying job.

Well after I recently got passed up for another promotion I got angry and decided to try to find someplace close by where I could take GED classes, so I begin browsing the internet. As I was browsing I stubmled upon this website and as I began to read I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Not only could I obtain a GED but I could do it without sitting in a classroom for hours and hours and I don’t have to sit in class with kids half my age. I can do it all right in the comfort and privacy of my own home.

And as if this wasn’t enough, I also read that this course isn’t based on memorization but on whether or not I get it. I knew when I read that, this website was truly a blessing from God. One of the reasons I didn’t finish High School is becasue I’ve always disagreed with the way we were taught or expected to learn. To me, it wasn’t learning, it was memorizing and I only memorized it long enough to get me through the exams, then it was gone. It never made sense to me. Teachers give you chapters and chapters of information to memorize and then test you on how well you’ve memorized it. So what was I being tested on here, my knowledge or my memory. It was simple to me and I couldn’t understand why teachers couldn’t see it. If I understood it, I remembered it. If I didn’t understand it, I didn’t remember it, it’s as simple as that. Forcing it into my head wasn’t going to change anything. It’s like driving a car, once you learn how to drive a car, it doesn’t matter if you stop driving for 10 years, when you get back in a car, it all comes right back, because you learned it and didn’t memorize it. You guys have found the answer, you understand what learning is all about.

Thank you so much. I have to go now, I can’t wait to get started. When I’m done I will come back and give you my success story.

  1. A. Williams:

To answer your question, “did I have problems with school?” Boy did I ever! Let me put it this way. I only had one teacher that I really learned from, it was my 8th grade civics teacher. I’ll never forget her. The first day of school she said to us, ” I have only one requirement in my class, that you show up. There is no homework in my class and no tests. If you show up, I promise you you’ll pass my class.” I thought is this lady real or what? She was real alright, the realest teacher I ever had. She understood the human mind. She understood the mind needed to be challenged and that you had to keep it interested. She understood that if you could hold it’s attention, it would retain a wealth of information. But if it wasn’t interested or didn’t understand, it wouldn’t retain anything.

Not only did I pass her class, but I can tell you to this day everything I learned in her class. Because she, like you, understood what learning was all about. She taught, and I learned. Other teachers lectured and the student’s job was to memorize. Since I was no good at either (listening to them lecture or memorizing)I dropped out.
