PROBLEM 1
Answer number four is correct because answers one, two and three can all be explanations for why there is such a widespread misunderstanding of what electricity is.

PROBLEM 2
Answer number five is correct, none of the above. The key words in the question are ”Twentieth Century”, “communications inventions” and “electronics”. The answer has to fit all three of these criteria.

The telephone and telegraph were invented before 1900 and the watch is not a communication invention. Even if you did not know the telephone and telegraph were invented before 1900, you might suspect that they were because the test writer added the words “Twentieth Century” to the question.

One thing to ask yourself when doing these types of questions is why the test writer may have included a certain answer. Is it to confuse the issue or is it just a wrong or right answer. Often test writers try to muddy the water a bit by adding answers that may “seem likely”, but on careful thought are wrong.

Most problems like this can be solved even if you do not know the actual answer. Read the problems carefully; they usually give you clues to the correct answers. If you did not know whether the telephone or telegraph were invented in the twentieth century, then the best course of action would be to make a random guess.
