Is the GED Hard?
One of the questions I hear all the time is: How hard is the GED? Well, a half million people pass it each year. If you’re wondering whether you can pass the GED…believe me, you can. The first step is to commit to doing it. Make up your mind that it’s your goal. There are only three steps… 1) Brush up on some basic skills. 2) Find a test center. 3) Take the test. Simple!
The trick to passing the GED is knowing what it’s testing. It’s not testing a lot of facts or memorization. Most of the GED tests are really about having thinking skills…understanding, analysis, application, evaluation. You need to look at information and then answer questions. You can easily build up these skills with a little practice!
The other two things you need to know are some writing and math. Math is usually hardest for most people… but focusing on learning basic math well is the best way to pass. You don’t need to memorize formulas. You do need to understand what the question is really asking. For the writing section, understanding what the essay readers really want can help your score a lot! You can do it… and here are some success stories to motivate you:
Advice from Augustine: “Remember, never give up…”
Here’s Augustine’s story:
I just want to encourage everyone who is about to take the next step…the GED. I, like many, received my GED, and I’m a perfect example of the advantages of earning a GED. I’m currently in my junior year in college with a 3.95 gpa, tutoring other (high school graduate) students in college algebra.
The reason why I left high school was because my dad needed help with starting his own business and he needed help with the business. Although sometimes I feel like I should have stayed in school, the two years of experince in the real world helped me mature and think differently. Now I thank God for directing me through his path, a path that has not been easy but has opened doors to a bright future.
I got my GED to start my college education. Currently, I’m a student finishing my pre-requisites needed for the PharmD. (Doctor of Pharmacy) degree. My goal is to one day graduate, open my own pharmacy and be an example to other young people like me. The only way my dreams will become reality is through the direction and help from God.
Remember, never give up… It is never too late to turn your life around.
