GED Test Day
One of the things that most people want to know is… what’s the GED test like? Well, in part, that depends on your local testing facility. But in general, you’ll be in a large room with other test takers, and there will be a proctor (the person who runs the test) there. Here are some tips for test day:
1. Be prepared!
Familiarize yourself with what’s on the test. Study up on the areas where you need help. And take a practice test! People nearly always do better on a test if they’ve taken a similar test before.
2. Be rested!
Don’t stay up all night studying. Instead, get a good night’s sleep. Try to relax… anxiety is a big problem for test takers. The more relaxed and confident you are, the better you’ll do.
3. Be early!
Don’t let unexpected traffic stress you out. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the testing center with about 15 minutes to spare. If you’re late, you might miss your test date… so save yourself worry by being early.
4. Be comfortable!
Your mind needs to be relaxed… but your body needs to be relaxed, too. Make sure you’ve eaten, and bring water, snacks, and extra cash. Dress in comfortable clothes, and bring a sweater in case the testing room is cold. You can’t focus on a test if you’re hungry, thirsty, hot, or cold!
5. Be supplied!
Wear a watch (one without a calculator) so you can track time. Bring plenty of pencils. Leave your cell phone at home or in the car.
6. Be smart!
Have a strategy for answering questions. Read the questions and answers carefully, and give yourself time to understand what they’re really asking. Mark your answers clearly and neatly on the testing sheet. Skip the hard questions, and go back to them at the end. If you’re running out of time… eliminate as many answers as possible and then guess! Answer all the questions, because a blank answer is always wrong.
7. Be relaxed!
Take a few moments to rest your eyes, stretch your arms, and take a deep breath. This is a thinking marathon! Pace yourself.
8. Be confident!
The GED test is not as hard as you think! Hundreds of thousands of people get their GED every year. You can pass this test… with a little preparation.
