How are you coming on your essay prep? You’ll need a score of at least 2 (out of 4) to pass the essay test. If you get less than a 2 you’ll have to retake the whole Language Arts  Writing test, not just the essay part.

The essays are scored by the following criteria:

1. Does your essay address the prompt, in other words, does it focus on what the prompt is asking you to write about.

2. Is your essay well organized. Are the ideas presented clearly and logically.

3. Does your essay develop its ideas well and include specific details to support your main topic.

4. Does your essay follow the conventions of Edited American English (EAE).

5. Does your essay use appropriate and precise word choice.

You can submit your essays for scoring on your Online Practice Test program. Our essay scorers will grade your essay with the same criteria used on the actual GED exam.
